Matera · Italy
Matera is the capital of the province of Matera in the Basilicata region of Italy. Its original settlement lies in two canyons carved by the Gravina River. This area, the Sassi di Matera, is a complex of cave dwellings carved into the ancient river canyon. The well-preserved rock-cut settlements are a World Heritage site. It was spring when I visited Matera for a few days, enjoying good company and delicious food.
